Lloyd Branson's Gathering of the Overmountain Men at Sycamore Shoals shows the gathering of the Overmountain Men enroute to their victory over loyalists at the Battle of King's Mountain, South Carolina, on October 7, 1780. This battle involved patriots coming together from widespread territory in southwestern Virginia, eastern Tennessee, the western Carolinas and northeastern Georgia. No British troops were present save for Major Patrick Ferguson, who died during the early stages of the battle.
